The Scottish Society of Gastroenterology evolved from the Caledonian Society in 2001. Its aim is to represent the professions with a primary interest in Gastroenterology including physicians, surgeons, nurses, physiologists and dieticians.

The society works to deliver its aims by providing educational opportunities via our meetings, by supporting research and providing a professional voice and opinion to government and the health service. It also exists for the mutual support of its members, so that they can find advice and support in their endeavours.

The mainstay of the society are our twice a year meetings, which are organised in rotation by hospitals around Scotland. In addition, we organise training days for specialty trainees in Gastroenterology and Taster days for those considering a career in gastroenterology. The society has as its members most Gastroenterologists in Scotland and many other specialists and nurses who work in aspects of Gastroenterology or have an interest in issues related to Gastroenterology.

Whether you are a trainee doctor, nurse or an experienced healthcare professional, the SSG Meetings offer a valuable opportunity to learn, connect, and engage with colleagues from across Scotland. These well‑established events continue to grow in reputation and attendance, creating an inspiring environment focused on advancing practice in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Trainee Meeting

Our Trainee Meeting typically welcomes 40+ trainee doctors, providing a supportive space to expand clinical knowledge, hear from expert speakers, and meet peers at a similar stage in their careers.

Main SSG Meeting

The Main SSG Meeting brings together over 100 healthcare professionals, including consultants, surgeons, SpRs, specialist nurses, and allied health practitioners. Delegates benefit from a diverse programme of talks delivered by invited keynote speakers from Scotland and beyond, covering key developments and current topics in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Delegates attending the Main Meeting also have the opportunity to submit abstracts and present posters, sharing their research and contributing to the wider professional community.

The Main SSG Meeting is accredited by the Royal College of Physicians which awards CPD points, supporting your ongoing professional development.

The Scottish Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (SSPGHAN) is a small but multidisciplinary-focused group of clinicians spanning all of Scotland. It plays a vital role in advancing the care of children with digestive, liver, and nutritional disorders across Scotland. Its primary purpose is to unite clinicians, researchers, dietitians and nurses who share a common goal: improving the lives of children who face gut or liver-related illnesses.

By fostering communication between specialists across Scotland, the society helps ensure that expertise is shared and that children, regardless of where they live, can benefit from high standards of care.

Education is a cornerstone of SSPGHAN’s mission. The society organises regular online meetings and case discussions as well as an annual conference that provide opportunities for professionals to stay up to date with the latest research and clinical guidelines. These gatherings are not only about knowledge transfer but also about building a strong professional network that supports continuous learning and mentorship. For trainees entering paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition, SSPGHAN offers an invaluable platform to connect with colleagues across the country.

Research is another key focus. SSPGHAN encourages national collaborative studies that address pressing clinical questions and contribute to the global understanding of paediatric gastrointestinal and liver diseases. By supporting research initiatives and promoting evidence-based practice, the society helps translate scientific discoveries into tangible improvements in patient care and disseminates these internationally through multiple national dataset publications each year.

In essence, SSPGHAN is more than a professional organisation – it is a collaborative community dedicated to enhancing the health and wellbeing of children across Scotland. Through community building, education and research it continues to make a meaningful impact in the field of paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition.

Sponsorship

The Great Scottish Gut Summit offers a valuable platform to showcase your organisation, build brand awareness, and engage directly with a highly relevant audience of clinicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals. As a joint initiative between the Scottish Society of Gastroenterology (SSG) and the Scottish Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (SSPGHAN), with support from the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG), the meeting is expected to attract up to 200 delegates from across Scotland and beyond.

With opportunities for exhibition presence, digital visibility, and inclusion across event materials and communications, sponsors benefit from multiple touchpoints before, during, and after the meeting, ensuring strong and sustained exposure.

Sponsorship of the SSG is typically offered on an annual basis, covering both the Summer and Winter meetings to provide consistent, year-round engagement. However, as the Summer Meeting has now taken place, we are pleased to offer a unique, one-off opportunity to support this inaugural “Great Scottish Gut Summit” as a standalone event.

A single sponsorship opportunity is available, designed to provide clear value and meaningful engagement with delegates in a focused and professional environment.

For full details of the opportunity, inclusions, and pricing, please download the prospectus. Please note this is a working document and will be updated as programme details and speaker confirmations are finalised.
